Often times when I do a reading or am at a signing, someone in the crowd will ask, "What has been your favorite part about being a published author?" And while I love my job and feel so blessed at my success writing commercial rural fiction, the best part about it all is sharing it. I love public events–love reading aloud from my books, love connecting with students who were just like me half a lifetime ago, love giving people the opportunity to pick the brain of someone with a career that they, too, might want one day. If you bring me to your school or public library, I will enthusiastically answer questions about writing, publishing, or the transition from country-to-city life, and I will happily sign books and/or lead writing workshops.
